Things That Are New and Good

We knew you would wait.  You know it too, didn't you?  You said you were going to have your Christmas shopping done by Thanksgiving... but then you didn't.  Lucky you, we have lots of good new stuff.
We have loads of Heritage Leather Co. bags in stock in two sizes (16" and 20") in several custom colors.

We also got a big Orla Kiely shipment with the new Big Flower print.  The Zip Wallet is one of my favorite pieces in the line- perfect for gifting!

New scarves from She-Bible are available in green, black and grey. At $38 they are one of the best bargins you can get for an organic domestically made gift!

I'm also in love with this new sweater wrap from She Bible.  Perfect for the gal who is always chilly.
Of course we have some great new mens items in as well.  The Major Burns fingerless gloves from Goorin are always a huge hit.
New flannel lined pants from Toddland are available in green and grey.  As far as we know, these are the first ever flannel pants that come in a cut other than the dreaded "relaxed fit."
Also new this week, solar powered Owl Flip Flaps!  It took almost two months for these guys to get here and I am honestly getting a little sad every time we have to part with one.

Of course, in addition to this week's new arrivals, we have a slew of classic gifts: handcrafted one of a kind jewelry, a huge selection of cameras, Toms shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses, tons of great outerwear... We are adding new items to the website every day, so check back often!

Josh and I are looking to expand our family.  Nope, not that way- we love using our third bedroom as a walk in closet too much to give it up to a nursery.  We are finally at the point with Tigertree where we need full time help.
We are looking for a very special person.  Someone with retail experience, but not someone who is constantly on.  We need someone who is organized enough to run the operations of a bustling shop but flexible enough to change everything when customers and the market demands.  This is an awesome opportunity to be involved with every aspect of owning a boutique- from buying and sourcing to window displays and visuals to accounting and marketing.. to dusting and washing the windows (yes, we DO do that ourselves..).  Everything!
Of course, we will still be around.  A lot.  And working on the shop just as much as ever.  We just cannot do it alone anymore.
Josh made this flow chart to help you decide if you should send your resume over.  And yes, thinking Zach Braff is funny really is a deal breaker.  We think it points to serious personality flaws. Anyway, you can email your resume to us at josh@shoptigertree.com.

Tigertree (tree) and Toms update

I'm sure I have no idea how these birdcages that happen to be in our logo colors and match the landing page of our website ended up in the tree in front of the shop.

In other news, we have been getting a lot of calls about Toms shoes.  Which is understandable.  Toms are like combining those "This __ was given in your name" gifts with an awesome usable, tangible gift.  You should give Toms, that's what I am getting at.  We have so many styles to choose from:
For women: Grey Wool Fleck Botas, Plum Wool Cordones, Gilded Herringbone, Pomegranate, Ash, Red, Gold, Silver, Natural Burlap, and Saffron.

For men: Grey Wool Fleck Botas, Ash Wax Twill Cordones, Grey Gingham Check, Cinnamon, Grey Flannel, Olive, Black, and Ash

We are well stocked with sizes of each style, but if you want to check to make sure we have what you are looking for, or if you would like to place an order to ship, feel free to give us a call at (614) 299 2660!

GIFTS

We have tons of amazing winter clothes and outerwear in right now, but we should take a short detour to talk about our new gifts!  Below are my top 5.  Of course, you should check out this list to get some ideas for the holidays, but I think a lot of these items are perfect for you.. like for yourself.  Today.

I have been trying to track down these amazing hand soaps since I saw them at Cog & Pearl in Brooklyn.  They finally arrived yesterday!  Each set contains 8 tiny vegetable glycerin soaps, ranging in size from 3/4" to 2" tall.
International Kids notebooks have 30 lined pages each.  Perfect to keep in your bag or pocket for those on the go thoughts.  (Did you know we also carry Field Notes?)
I was never allowed to buy astronaut ice cream at any museum gift shop.  I have a very practical mother. Well now I have a whole case of it.  And I will share.
Pet Plants are back in stock!  We have succulents and tiny cacti to hang from your bag, rear-view mirror or wherever you need a little green friend.  Things are about to get pretty brown here in Columbus, so I think its perfect timing!

I just finished up a big new batch of book belt buckles and added them to the online store yesterday.  As always, each piece is made from a real discarded book cover and is absolutely one of a kind.

Tons of other new gift items are on the gift section of the website!  Also I am here at the store with all of these treasures; stop in and say hello.

Shout out in Out (magazine)

The boys from Out magazine stopped by the store again recently en route to Hocking Hills.  They featured Tigertree and Jeni's back in the August issue of the magazine and apparently still had an itch for book belt buckles and amazing ice cream!  You can see the shout out to both on the Out Traveler website.

Quite Possibly the Best Reusable Shopping Bag Ever.

It takes a lot to impress me when it comes to reusable shopping bags.  For the last couple years, I have used my trusty flip and tumble bags; they are sturdy, compact and come in great colors.  All sorts of new reusable bags have come onto the market and I have not batted an eye; until now.
Meet the amazingly adorable bunny bags!  We just got these in today in 10 colors!  The bag measures a perfect 14" wide by 13" with an external front pocket.   The back of the bunny hides a zipper which allows you to stuff the bag into its belly when it is not in use.  My favorite part is that the bunny keeps its shape even without the bag, so you always have a little friend running errands with you.
Perfect for shoppers with kids or people who just like looking awesome.  As always, more details on shoptigertree.com

Heritage Leather for Tigertree exclusive!

We have been fans of the classic Heritage Leather mason bags for quite a while.  We love the classic white canvas look, but we thought, wouldn't it be great if they were more... Tigertree?

Josh pulled some strings with the kind folks at Heritage and they are now making these colored bags exclusively for us!
We are offering the bags in colored wool felt (mustard, olive and grey) and canvas (crimson, olive, and desert) in two different sizes for all your errand running and weekend trip needs.  Drop by the online store or pop into the shop this weekend to pick one up!

Flip Flaps!

People ask us all the time how we decide what to carry in the store.  In the case of Flip Flaps, the love affair started one very late night in the New York, New York arcade in Vegas.  Josh was trying to win a new phone or wii game when I noticed a tiny frog in the prize line up, soothingly bobbing his head back and forth.  I made Josh focus his efforts on winning this amazing find, but with no luck.  After spending way too much money, he decided that there might be a better way to go about getting a Flip Flap (as we later learned they were called.)
After a few months of searching and a lot of confusing emails, we were able to bring these treasures to Tigertree!  They are available for $12 which is a steal compared to the money we spent trying to win one!
So what are they?  Please don't call them bobble heads!  They are solar powered animated friends.  They greet us us every morning when we walk in to the shop and quietly put themselves to sleep when they sun goes down.  They are waiting for you to bring them home and add a sense of happiness and wonder to your desk or windowsill.

So you have been asking us to bring the Ohio outline necklaces back for, what, 3 years?  We have a long to-do list, but you knew we would eventually get it done:
Handmade recycled sterling silver overlay state outline necklace ($32)

And!  For the first time ever!  Handmade recycled 14k gold overlay outline necklace ($36)!  I know!  We WERE listening!

As always, more pictures and details are available on the website, check out the jewelry section of shoptigertree.com!

Food Cart Food Court

Sorry for two food related posts in a row, but we wanted to say thanks to everyone that came out to The Food Cart Food Court at Wonderland on Sunday to hear a little bit about what is going on with the project and get some great food.
Mike Beaumont put together this little gem in case you missed it.

Street Food

Josh and I love eating.  We especially love eating street food.  We have hosted Foodie Cart in front of the shop every Saturday afternoon for the past couple of months with the guise of helping another local business, but really we just wanted crepes at our disposal all afternoon.  Kenny and Misako were even kind enough to create a crepe just for Tigertree Saturdays- The Tigertree BLT (and E&C) (that's egg and cheese for those of you less versed in sandwich shorthand).
They will be back in front of the store this Saturday afternoon.  You can track them @freshstreet on Twitter or at facebook/com/foodie.cart.

If one day of food cart goodness is not enough for you, on Sunday (October 17th), make sure to check out the Food Cart Food Court event from 4-7 p.m.  Come hang out in the Wonderland parking lot with the project's board and staff and get food from Foodie Cart, Three Babes and A Baker, Rad Dog, Veggielicious and DaLevee Express.
Wonderland tees and candles (fresh baked bread scent!) will be available.  You can also pick up one of the tees anytime at Tigertree.  They are $20 and all proceeds benefit the project.

wolfe jacket

Every fall, the San Fransisco based line, She-Bible manages to make my new favorite piece of clothing.  We just got in the jacket that you will likely see me in every day until I have to break out the down-filled parkas for the February freeze.

The Wolfe Jacket is 100% organic duck cloth that has been garment dyed so it is pre-shrunk and super soft.  The large scarf like piece at the top can be worn a million ways- as a hood, a scarf, a rouched neck piece..
Its insanely practical and stylish at the same time, which is what She-Bible does so well.
The jacket is available now on the website and in the shop!

we are nothing if not subtle

We have a smallish storefront.  My parents can never find it when they visit.  "Mom, there is a chicken machine out front!" I say.  But they still drive right by.
Well, I think we have put a stop to that.
It took four coats to get the yellow solid enough.  Even as I was painting, we were getting the ususal "where are you located" calls and Josh was responding "Its the yellow store, you can't miss it."  Indeed you cannot.

New Toy Cameras

We have added three new superstars to our toy camera line up.

First up is the Blackbird Fly.   It comes in an array of awesome colors and is probably the most visually striking modern camera I have seen in a long time.  Everything down to the packaging is well executed, which is a nod to how this camera performs.  If you can't tell by looking at it, it's a twin lens camera.  Basically that means you look down into it and shoot from the waist (there is an option to shoot "normally" too) which I think is like the photography equivalent of taking the bus or riding a bike if you are used to driving a car.  You end up seeing things in a totally different way and ending up with a new vantage point.  Most remarkable, it is a 35 MM (most twin lens cameras are 120) so you can get your rolls developed almost anywhere.

Next is the Baby Holga.  Yes, it is a 110 Holga that you can put on your keychain!  Totally portable Holga quality photos.  It's also only 20 dollars.  I can't wait to see what I get out of this one.

Finally is the Wide Slim camera.  Also available in a bunch of cool colors.  This is a super wide angle 35MM that gives you awesome vignetted shots with unbelievable color saturation.

PASTE

Jason Laurits puts in a lot of hours, and logs a lot of miles, as the designer, shipping manager, social media manager, sales rep and every other position of the line PASTE.  You may have met him a little over a year ago when he came to Columbus for a trunk show at the shop.   We recently sat down with Jason to talk to him about how excited we are about the new pieces we just got in for fall and how super excited we are for his swimwear we'll be getting after a short and mild winter.

1.From what I can tell Paste is a one man operation. You design, sell, rep and stay on the road a lot. What do you like about running things alone. Is there anyone else in the company or do you wish there was?
Yes, as of now it's just me.  I do hire out a bookkeeper, but that's about it.  I am certainly ready to start handing some duties over to someoe else, and I think (HOPE) that's going to happen within this year.  I would like to return somewhat to my life outside of this.  But it's been nice to have a hand in every aspect of my business.  It's sort of like boot camp right now, just paying my dues, that's what keeps me going.  I just hope I haven't gotten addicted to the hard-working pace that I run at right now, where I won't be able to stop, slow down, and relax a little bit if given the chance.  My grandma's 93 years old, and there isn't a day she doesn't have vaccum tracks in her rug.  God, I hope I don't end up like that.
2. What was your favorite city on your summer tour and why haven't you been back to Columbus yet?
Sorry Columbus, Tigertree has yet to invite me back.  I've been sitting by the phone for while now waiting for your call.  My fave city this summer was once again Chicago.  They are just great supporters of Paste and indie brands in general.  They get it, love it, and I love the city.  It's beautiful, clean, and people are really nice.
3. You seemed pretty proud of that free buffet you won at the Wynn, did it meet your expectations?
I actually haven't cashed it in yet.  I kept putting it off each night, until it was the last night and I was catching a red-eye home.  I went, stood in the long line, didn't move for 20 minutes.  There's really nothing more embarrassing than standing by yourself in a buffet line with a "Free Buffet" coupon in your hand, especially at the Wynn.  I didn't want to miss my flight, so I had to bow out.  Fortunately, I have six months to use it, and I am there twice a year so I will keep you updated.
4. You used to have two brands Plaster and Paste but are now doing the tees and menswear under the same name, why the change?  Plaster was a contemporary line with a higher pricepoint, while Paste was its more affordable option consisting at the time of just graphic tees.  It was tough enough to juggle them both, then the recession hit and stores weren't taking on new lines at Plaster's pricepoint.  They were, however, interested in Paste.  So I decided to focus on the tees with the hopes of expanding it into a contemporary line.  Slowly but surely, button-downs are out this fall, and swimwear is coming out next summer.
5. I am really excited about your swim-wear we'll be getting in for spring. I guess that isn't really a question but if you want to respond to that you can.
No it wasn't a question, but I'll respond and save you from embarrassment.  I'm excited about the swim, too.  It was one of those things that just made sense for me to do.  I love doing graphics, and thought it would be great to work with swim.  And it came out exactly how I pictured it in my head!  I mean, how often does that happen for us perfectionists!

Jansport Heritage

Jansport started in the late 60's during a time when many companies with hippies at the helm were changing the way companies were run and what they sold.  I struggle to use the word hippies because it conjures up images of some baggy pant, birkenstock, route 420 tee shirt, hemp necklace, Dave Matthews Band following 17 year old.  They had engineering degrees, well at least one of them did.  Like many companies of the day, they turned product design and business on its head and were creating revolutionary products.
The Jansport Heritage line reproduces their original bags down to the smallest details like their amazing old logo and hang tag and we are excited to have them in the store!
